Food, Glorious Food

Krista   gave   us  pins that  said  Tatamagouche  Edible Garden .
They are very shiny and they are dark  red .

Krista took us over to the art for the art fair.  We saw a bunch of art.
If you made some art you could win a prize.

Sam passed out the carrots. They were so good we had some more.

Today we went to the gym and met a chef.  He came to the school and talked about making food like
salted watermelon.  Most of the food was from the edible school garden.
Chef  Alain  talked about what was on the menu.
Here are some of the things; fresh tomato bruschetta, Greek style watermelon salad, curry apple soup, blueberry muffins, chocolate zucchini muffins and maple mashed turnips.

Wednesday morning the chef mashed the turnip, then he put butter and maple syrup in it.

Justin Yap is going to culinary cooking school to learn how to cook.
He was an old student here at Tatamagouche Elementary School.

Daniel thanked Chef Alain for coming to our school and preparing the food for us.

Wednesday afternoon we went to the gym to taste different things.  Everybody liked different things, but mostly everyone liked the muffins.

ePearl electronic portfolios

On Tuesday we began a year-long project to make an electronic porfolio with a program called ePearl.  Mr. Oldrieve,  a technology mentor from CCRSB, will be with us alot in first term as we get underway.  We began by personalizing our page by choosing a theme,  writing an introduction to our portfolio, and creating some goals for this school year.

Students can access their individual accounts at http://tinyurl.com/6xbaof5  with  their personal username and password.  There is also a link to epearl posted on this blog.

Writer's Notebook

Today we began our Writer's Notebook by writing "TEN  Things People Should Know About ME." We are going to decorate the covers of our notebooks on Thursday afternoon,  so we need drawings,  magazine pictures, and even photos.  We will be doing a collage style cover.   Only bring photos that can
be glued onto the notebooks forever!
Parents if you have any kid friendly magazines or scrapbooking papers that you wish to donate,  we would gladly receive them!

Week of September 19

  • We had art yesterday,  Mrs. Martin read a book called Artful Reading.  It was a book that showed famous artists paintings of people reading books.  You can read this book by clicking on this link to google books.  http://tinyurl.com/3hhnduk     We then made our own pictures of books and reading.
  • We finished the chapter book I Hate Books! by Kate Walker.  It was a good story about Hamish and how he came to like reading.

  • We played Fraction Bingo in math this week.
  • Going home with Josh today is Marble.  We can't wait until Monday when we hear about all the amazing things that Marble and Josh do.

Week of September 12th

  • This week we started to learn about fractions in class. The top number in a fraction is called the numerator.  It tells us  the number of parts that we are talking about or counting.  The denominator is always on the bottom and it tells how many parts altogether.  We have learned alot about fractions and we love it.
  • We decorated our shoeboxes for our Autobiography Kits.  We started to share the kits on Friday.  About 3 students will share their kits each day over the next few weeks.
